Improve Your Networking Materials

Your networking materials —your brochures, business cards, and other public relations packets you send to others —need to reflect the best of who you are and what you do. Use this simple checklist to evaluate and improve your materials.

  • My brochures and advertisements identify the benefits and solutions I offer, not just the features of my practice (my academic degrees, the types of training I have, the issues or populations I work with).
  • My brochures, flyers, and advertisements reflect my basic message and ask clearly for referrals, where appropriate.
  • I use everyday, understandable language in my materials that indicate what I hear my clients say that they want, versus the technical terminology that signals the way I (or my profession) diagnose.
  • I niche my services not just by population or issues I address, but by the outcomes I consistently deliver.
  • I really like the way my business card looks and what it says.
  • I measure the results of my work with clients by conducting surveys, research, studies, evaluations, or exit interviews. I include references to my consistent results in my materials.
  • I like the professional look of all my materials including the colors, use of graphics, professional layout, and design elements.
